ENT Emergency Clinic Referral Information
This guideline applies to systemically well children and adults with acute ENT presentations.
Referral
Examples of unsuitable conditions (not an exhaustive list):
- Earwax – see Earwax guideline
- Vertigo – see Vertigo guideline
- Tinnitus – see Tinnitus guideline
- Non-acute throat pain – see Sore Throat guideline
- Suspected cancer, including neck lumps – refer via Fast Track ENT Suspected Cancer pathway
To make a referral:
- Contact first on-call for ENT via RCHT switchboard.
- After discussion, email the referral letter to rch-tr.entacutereferral@nhs.net
- Ensure patient’s phone number is up-to-date and warn them to expect a phone-call from the ENT doctor to arrange the date/time of assessment.
If patient is uncontactable following multiple attempts, they will receive a letter advising they have been discharged. In this event, if on-going symptoms, a further referral will be required.
If referral to the ENT Emergency Clinic is not suitable, the on-call doctor will advise a more appropriate pathway.
