HIV

 

This guideline applies to adults and young people aged 16 years and over

Children younger than 16 years old need to be referred to Bristol Royal Hospital for Children

 

Introduction

  • All patients living with HIV should be referred to the Marram Clinic, RCHT.
     
  • All new patients diagnosed with HIV will be seen within 48 hours of the referral being sent (unless sent on Friday). 
     
  • This is a service information page.


 

Inclusion criteria:   

  • Patients with pre-existing or newly diagnosed HIV

 

Exclusion criteria:    

  • No confirmed diagnosis of HIV

Out of Hours Advice for all patients

  • On call advice available out of hours and at the weekends from the Consultant on-call via Derriford switchboard 01752 202082.  Please note this service is run by Consultants on a rolling rota between RCHT, Derriford and Exeter. 


 

Information required for referral

For patients with new and pre-existing HIV, (if available), please include:

  • Date of diagnosis
     
  • Viral load
     
  • CD4 count
     
  • Current antiviral therapy (and how many tablets they have left)
     
  • Previous antiviral therapy
     
  • Other co-morbidities

 

Referral Instructions

All patients living with HIV should be referred by a clinician or patients can self-refer to the Marram Clinic:

Operating Hours for the Marram Clinic are Monday- Friday 8.30-4.30



Urgent referrals:

Please consider contacting the HIV team by telephone if there are urgent concerns or if the patient is very distressed.  Please follow up with an e-mail or letter.

 

Routine referrals:

Please refer by email or by letter.
