Child and Young Person Local Mental Health Services

 

CAMHS

Accepts referrals for children less than 18 years old. See the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) guideline for further information.

 

Early Help Services

The Early Help Hub is Cornwall’s ‘front door’ service for children, jointly led by Cornwall Council and CFT. Accepts referrals from pre-birth up to 18 years old; up to 25 years old if special educational need or disability (SEND). See the Early Help Services guideline for further information.

 

Gender Dysphoria

In children and young people under 17 years old, to access gender identity services refer to CAMHS. Referral to the national NHS Gender Incongruence Service for Children and Young People can only be made by Cornwall CAMHS services.  This is a national requirement.

Based in the Early Help Hub, Cornwall’s FIS provides free impartial information and advice on family matters and support services, childcare funding, parenting programmes, work, education, volunteering and leisure activities.

Offers drop-in youth groups and one-to-one mental health sessions all over Cornwall. Referrals can be made by the young person, their parent/guardian or a professional.

  • Aspires project: working with children and young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder to help transition into mainstream social activities.
  • One-to-one and group support
  • Kernow Connect: children aged over 11yr who are experiencing mental health difficulties causing significant functional impairment on a daily basis, alongside one of the following:
    • Does not meet the threshold for CAMHS
    • Has undertaken a CAMHS assessment but there is no ongoing therapeutic intervention
    • Discharged from in-patient services and in need of support to re-engage
    • Registered as child-in-need / child-protection / in-care
    • At risk of school exclusion
  • Other programmes: socialisation, anger management, self-esteem building, domestic violence, parent and child relationship, prison-related, bereavement, eating disorders, young carers, gambling, sexual health etc. (not an exhaustive list).

Local charity supporting bereaved children and young people aged 0-18 and their families, whether the loved one died very recently or a long time ago. Offers support groups to enable children and young people to meet others and share their experiences, as well as practical resources to help cope with grief.

 

CLEAR Children’s Trauma Recovery Service

Offers trauma-focused therapy and counselling for emotional trauma and abuse to children aged 0-18 years old (may be extended to 25 years old if there are additional needs).
