NICE: Gambling-related harms
NICE have published their first clinical guideline on gambling-related harms, published on 28th January 2025. In the guideline, they recommend that healthcare professionals should be asking patients about gambling at health checks and GP appointments (see NICE news article).

NHS: Help for problems with gambling
Includes a questionnaire to help patients assess the severity of their gambling. A score of 8 or more indicates that they are likely to be experiencing gambling-related harms.
Signposts patients, and people affected by other’s gambling, to NHS gambling treatment centres(i.e. South West Gambling Service), to which they can self-refer, as well as charities and support services.
Provides advice on practical steps that can be taken to reduce the negative impact of gambling.

The South West Gambling Service
Provides free confidential support to patients affected by gambling who are registered with a GP in Cornwall and Isles of Scilly. Self-referral via telephone or online form (via website) is accepted.
